We recognize that spiritual practice is needed regularly as part of our transformation. We’ve been talking about how the power of speaking our word adds additional creative energy to our thoughts. Spiritual Mind Treatment is a specific form of prayer that we teach in Religious Science. In it we recognize that all is unity; we are already manifestations of God. Our prayer is affirmative. There is no supplication to a God that is far away or mood-driven. If God is truly within each of us, there is no duality.
Spiritual Mind Treatment has 5 steps that put into form our belief in Oneness. We are talking about God, not to God, remembering that we are each unique individual manifestations of a Universal Mind, Spirit and Intelligence that is the origin of everything.
Recognition – We recognize and state the attributes of God, such as Abundance, Love, Wholeness, Intelligence, Peace.
Unification – We unify ourselves with these attributes, knowing God is everywhere present.
Realization – Here we affirm what we desire in the present tense, accepting that it is already done.
Thanksgiving – Knowing that in the mind of God our good already exists, we give thanks.
Release – Having spoken our word, we release it without further worry or concern.
Why is prayer important? It can help us get clarity. Occasionally the answer may be “No”. There may be something greater for us, something else in the mind of Spirit. Usually the answer is “Yes”, but what we really want may be something deeper behind the thing requested. It can be useful to first pray for clarity. Our words are important, but the “fire from heaven” is the faith, which is the power behind the words. Ernest Holmes tells us to be direct and specific; we are dealing with Intelligence. Our word is powerful and creative.
